0 Preds beat Wings in OT

By Justin Koehn

In the 21st sellout in a row at Bridgestone Arena, the fans went wild as the home team was able to keep the Red Wings at bay in yet another overtime game. This came to be the ninth overtime the Preds have been involved in this season, leading the NHL in that respect. After coming off a 6-5 loss against Colorado the night before, Nashville came out on fire with Craig Smith burying a PPG at 5:01, assisted by Wilson and Weber. Just over five minutes later, Gabriel Bourque tipped in another to give the Predators a 2-0 lead. Before the end of the 1st, Detroit was able to bring it within one goal with a wrister from Cleary. The second period was a lot of back and forth, as that kind of thing happens. It was 11:33 into the third when Jordin Tootoo scored his first of the season to tie it up 2-2 (I know, funny) and his first back in Bridgestone since he fled to Detroit. I won't lie, I do not miss the sounds of the whistles. Two more goals would be scored in the third by Roman Josi at 12:54 and Pavel Datsyuk at 13:30 to bring it to 3-3. When this happened, I knew we were destined for another OT. One point is better than nothing, right? Why stop at one when you can get two! This was the feelings of Shea Weber when he was blasted a wrist shot at 0:44 into the extra time, assisted by Colin Wilson and Sergei Kostitsyn.

Weber finished the game +2 with his goal and assist. Ever since our captain netted his first a few games ago, he is on fire, just as Barry Trotz said. Trust your coach, he knows things.

The Predators are at home again on Friday night to take on Vancouver, then promptly fly out to head to Detroit for what could prove to be a very exciting game you will not want to miss. Seriously, set your VCR to record it and as always, be kind please rewind.
